Chapter 24

|Jailaina|

Dead. She is dead. Even if I wanted to I couldn’t comprehend it. One of my best friends since 3rd grade. Dead. Shot dead. One bullet punctured the lower part of her heart.

“Jai, baby, I got you some food” My head snapped up from tracing the pattern of the dark blanket to Chris’ face when he spoke. I wanted to speak but I couldn’t; not sound nor words produced when I opened my mouth.

It was the screaming. I sat in the bathtub for 4 hours and screamed until my throat burned and I had the foul taste of copper touching my taste buds.

I looked down when he huffed and walked away from the door, surrendering. He’s been trying to talk to me for 2 days now and even before I screamed my voice away I wouldn’t speak. I couldn’t, my voice was in full effect but the only person I wanted to talk to was Kahlua.

My eyes moved again from the empty threshold of Chris’ room to the diamond pattern of the dark blanket I was tracing before. Before I knew I had the cool, familiar feeling of wet tears cascading down my face. Even the slightest thought of Kahlua made me break inside.

My kids will never meet their aunt Kahlua and she will never get to be one of my bridesmaids and I won’t get to share laughs with her or have deep conversations anymore.

|Chris|

Burned out. The perfect description of how I was feeling. Even though I had only known Kahlua for about 9 months, we had a connection. She was one of my friends and I was growing close with her and starting to actually put more trust and thought into our friendship. I mean she was one of Jailaina’s bestest friends so I had to be cool with her.

I’m burned out because I was feeling sad and distraught from all the hurt I had to witness from others, especially Jailaina. No man wants to see their girl cry as much as she has and not have a way of solving the reasoning behind it all.

Jailaina has been burning me out also. I understand she’s distracted and beside herself but I just want to make sure she’s okay. I need to know she’s okay because without Jai their is no Chris.

I want to console her and help her through this rough time but its like every time I try she shuts me out or ignores me.

I threw away my McDonald’s wrapper and turned the kitchen light off on my way out before sprinting up the stairs and down the hall to my room. I quietly walked in my room to find her in the same position doing the same thing she was doing 20 minutes ago when I got ignored.

“Hey baby” I tried to speak to her for the umpteenth time in the last 2 days. I hesitantly reach out and pulled her into my chest when I saw silent tears leaving her eyes.

“I-I-I-I’m sorry” She cried, her voice low and raspy as she clung to my white tee.

“It’s okay baby girl” I leaned back against the pillows and held her small body to my chest, wrapping my arms around her as she shook.

(Next week)

I held Jailaina’s hand and walked side by side with her down the church aisle walking to the front of the church where Kahlua’s friends and family stood and sat.

“You can sit here, I’m gonna go say hi” She spoke softly and I nodded, sitting in a pew behind everyone else. I watched as Jailaina bounced from person to person, kissing cheeks and giving long hugs. Soon she came back and slid into the pew next to me.

“The girls still aren’t here” She stated and I nodded, grabbing her small hand and intertwining it with mine.

“What do you do at a wake?” I asked. As many funerals I’ve been to, I’ve never really been to a wake.

“They are gonna so the rosary, we can go up and see if we want and someone in the family might give a speech or they might do those tomorrow” She answered dryly and I nodded, admiring the side of her face.

All this stress was clearly draining her. Her hair even though she just dyed it looked like a tinted gray and her face is paler than ever.

“Are you gonna speak?” I asked as she looked straight ahead at the church alter.

“Yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing these past couple of days, I wrote something but if I’m able to present it then that’s up to how my emotions are tomorrow” She explained and nodded once more, letting go of her hand and stretching my arm across her shoulders.

|Jailaina|

“Come on” I prodded, tugging at Jelani’s hand. She pasted Kendalyn to Chris before standing up and fixing her shirt. Once we all slid out of the pew, Lani, Bryanna and I held hands on our way up to view Kahlua’s body.

Once I took those final steps and my eyes skimmed over her pale color body, my knees buckled. This whole experience felt weird, I gripped the girls’ hands tighter as we stepped closer and they released my hands.

Bryanna took the initiative to go first, grabbed Kahlua stiff hand and kissing it before kissing her forehead. She whispered things to her before standing up straight and wiping her face profusely.

“I love you sis” Was the only audible thing she said before turning and falling into the arms over the closest familiar person near her; Carlos. He missed the whole thing when he went on a trip with his cousins down to Jersey and when he came back JJ told me it was hard to tell him.

No one expects to leave for 3 days then come back to find out your sister got shot and died.

I turned towards Jelani and we made eye contact for a couple seconds before I placed my hand on the small of her back and slightly pushed her towards the casket. She took her time, fixing Kahlua’s shirt and the diamond infinity ring I bought Lua for her 16th birthday that matched the studs Bry got her and the infinity necklace Lani got her.

I watched quietly, waiting my turn as Jelani talked to her and cried before kissing her forehead and her cheek, squeezing her hand before walking away but not before patting my back.

Then there was one.

I coached my breathing before taking the one step that stood between me and my falling friend. It still is so unreal for me as I stood in her spirit’s presence. My best friend, she’s been there for me through everything and is gone.

I rested my hand on the cold casket and leaned over, kissing her nose like she used to do to me when I was angry or sad. Man I’m gonna miss her.

“Man Lua, they got you up here looking fine” I giggled, taking her cold hand into mine. I gasped lowly before shivering from the cold touch. My head snapped to the side when I heard Lua’s melodic, high pitched laugh in my ear, seeing no one there. “I never knew at this age that I would have to bury one of my best friends” I spoke truthfully, playing with the ring on her ring finger.

“I’m gonna miss you so much though, I promise I will never forget about you and everything we’ve been through” I sobbed, pushing away the the cool tears that flowed down my face. “At some points I feel like its all my fault, if I could go back in time I would have said and done so much” I continued, sniffling.

“I just want you to know that I love you so much Kahlua and I don’t know how I’m gonna do it but I promise I’m gonna go on just for you” I couldn’t help as my chest heaved and my sobbing picked up a notch.

|Chris|

I watched Jailaina’s every move as she interacted with Kahlua’s body at the alter. I just feel extra protective over everything that has to do with her. None of this should have happened, I know that bullet was meant for Jailaina and I can’t let there be another death.

No one in the crew is getting hurt again and especially not Jailaina, hell will freeze over before someone tries to hurt my baby.

I watched as she wiped her face profusely, her chest heaving up and down before she just fell. I jumped up when her body let go and she fell to her knees, her chest still heaving as I sprinting up the aisle of the church and to her.

“Jai, you alright?” Ricky beat me to her as he tried to help her up. I looked around at all the friends and family of Kahlua before scooping Jai up and holding her securely as I sped walked down the aisle and to the front of the church, taking her outside.

“Bae, you need to take deep breaths” I instructed her, placing her carefully on her feet and rubbing her back.

“I-I-I can’t” She stuttered, holding her chest with one hand as the other one rested on my arm, helping her stand up correctly.

“Come on” I grabbed her arm quickly, guiding her to my car and helping her into the passenger seat before jogging over to my side and sliding in.

“Babe, hold me” She murmured, holding her arms up as she stood in front of me, blocking me from leaving the bathroom. I picked her up and held her thighs, walking over to my bed and laying her down in the middle of the bed before losing my dress shirt and slacks. I crawled into the bed next to her and wrapped my arms around her, squeezing her tight before loosing up some and kissing her forehead.

“I love you Jai” I mumbled, my face buried in her hair.

“I love you too, so much” Her voice small and frail made me hold her tighter.

(Next Day)

|Jailaina|

I sat in the church between Chris and Jelani, after my whole stint yesterday her and Bry have been giving me looks. What happened yesterday wasn’t an act though, I could feel like chest collapsing and breathing got harder to do.

Chris brought me back to his house and calmed me down, giving me a brown paper bag to breath in and some cold water.

I stood when the father announced that the last people were coming up to talk about Kahlua; me and JJ. I slid out of the pew and waited for him to slid out the after me, hooking my arm with his and walking up to the church alter. He held my hand as I walked up the stairs first, reaching into my blazer pocket and pulling out my paper that held the words I was gonna speak.

JJ stood behind me, his hands intertwined in front of him as he waited along with everyone else. I stepped up to the podium and unfolded my paper, glancing up at all the eyes before down at the paper.

“I’ve been best friends with Kahlua for forever and the first thing I can say is, the last couple of days have been a terrible time for us all. Living a nightmare that we have all struggled to come to terms with, but the one thing I can say is that Kahlua would be so very proud of the way that everyone has been there for each other and pulled together, united in their support. It just goes to show that we all carry a little bit of Lua inside ourselves; that deeply entrenched natural instinct to care for one another.” I spoke softly, moving the microphone closer to my mouth as I read the words on the paper, taking a few glances up from the paper.

“Nothing was more important to Kahlua than those close to her, so let’s keep close to each other and do what she would want. Kahlua is so alive in every single one of us and between us we have so many amazing memories to share, so let’s just keep sharing them and enjoying them. She would want us to be happy. Laughter always got her through all her hard times and laughter will get us through ours.” I continued, wiping away from my tears and looking up from the now damp paper to all the eye on me. I took my paper and backed up from the podium as they clapped, giving JJ a long hug before he stepped up for his turn.

We all stood once the 45 minute mass was over, waiting for them to walk past our pew, pushing Kahlua’s casket. We soon started to file out the pews, walking out to the church parking lot to see Kahlua’s 3 uncles and her brothers lifting her casket into the hearse as everybody scattered to their cars, getting ready for the funeral procession.

I held Chris’ hand tight as we walked through the people walking to their cars, going towards his car. We went separate ways as I slid into the passenger seat and waited for him to get in. Once he started the car, the cars in front of us started to pull out and he mimicked their actions following them to the cemetery with the cars behind us also following.

When the long line of cars finally made it across town to the cemetery we all exited our cars, walking over to where Kahlua’s casket laid on a holder above the hole they would soon lower her into.

I looked around the familiar cemetery and it finally hit me, my grandfather. My grandfather was buried here when I was 6, 10 years ago and I’m here again, burying my best friend.

I rubbed my eyes furiously as I huffed, grabbing my ringing phone from the nightstand, immediately pressing ‘answer’.

“Hello!?” I spat, bringing my head up and reading the time off the cable box under Chris’ TV; 4:12.

“JAILAINA! Get to Albany Med quick!” Ricky’s voice screeched from the other line and I instantly woke up.

“Albany Med?! Why?” I asked, frantically as I got up, tripping over my own feet as I ran to my bag.

“HURRY!” He ignored my question and hung up. I threw my phone on the floor and pulled on a pair of pants, buttoning them up quickly.

“Chris! Get up!” I yelled at him as I pulled my messy hair up, only to pile it back on top of my head.

“Fuck are you yelling for!? Get back in the bed” He roared.

“We have to get to the hospital, lets go!” I yelled, grabbing J’s and sliding them on my bare feet, grabbing my phone off the floor and Chris’ keys off his dresser.

“What, why?” He asked, making me more annoyed.

“LETS FUCKING GO!” I yelled, running out the room and down the stairs.

(JJ)

“I don’t know what happened man” I cried to Enrique, its been awhile since I’ve cried but I never thought I would have to witness my twin sister getting shot. “Everything was going by so fast, a-a-all I saw was her fall limp and then they drove away” I cried harder, pulling away from his chest.

“Calm down” He tried to wrap me up in a hug again but I push him away, making him stumble before punching the hospital wall.

“SIR! We are gonna have to ask you to leave if you don’t settle down” A nurse yelled at me and I ignored her before sliding down the wall and resting my head on my knees.

This was all my fault, we got caught up in this shit and now niggas are coming after us. I can’t take the risk of losing family, I already caused pain to my brothers, my mother and my twin sister.

“Jose, everything is gonna be alright” Enrique consoled me and I really broke down. I don’t know what I would do without my sister.

“What happened?” Jailaina’s voice could be heard through out the whole emergency waiting room.

I moved away from Ricky and wiped my face, watching as Jai ran over to us.

“What happened?” She reiterated, crouching down and dropping to her knees in front of us.

“Lua and JJ were driving Walmart and some shit popped off, all he told me was that some niggas rode up on them and popped off. Lua got hit and the doctors not really tryna say nothing, Mama is going crazy” Ricky spoke softly as Jai listened intently.

“Oh my god. If something is wrong with her… I don’t… I can’t” She muttered, more to herself as she move her legs into Indian style and putting her face in her hands.

“Yo Jailaina” Chris voice echoed throughout the room as he jogged, his face drained once he saw all of us. “Who is it?” He asked, quietly, now towering all of us.

“Kahlua” Enrique was the only one able to speak up. He’s been the calmest since we’ve been here. I know since he’s my older brother and is in college and shit he wants to set an example for us. But its make me a little uneasy that he isn’t really showing emotion, he’s my brother, if he needs to be comforted than I’m here. Don’t put up a wall.

Enrique patted my back and got up, dapping Chris. “I’m gonna find mommy” He spoke lowly. Chris pulled Jailaina off the ground and held her tight as her quiet sobs could be heard through the 3 of us. I can’t deal with this shit right now.

(Chris)

3 hours later and we were still here. The sun was up now and Bryanna, Jelani, Aaron and Mijo joined us along with some of Lua’s family that I didn’t know. Everyone was quiet, having small conversations with each other. My focus has been on Jailaina the whole time.

I feel bad because she has to go through so much shit but I know all these put downs and low moments will make her stronger. I don’t know how to help her in this situation but to hold her closer and rub her back.

I’ve never had to deal with this type of thing. Yeah I’ve been in the game for 4 years but dealing with Jay, nobody really got hurt unless it was the bad guy. He had security locked down and he had everything organized, nobody ended up in a hospital for severe things like this.

This whole thing for me was spacey. Felt like it wasn’t real. I just saw Lua; happy and giggly; 6 hours ago and now this whole thing is like surreal. If this is how my emotions are set up then I don’t know what is going though Jailaina’s head.

Her best friend is laid up in the hospital for gang violence that she was completely unaware about. Kahlua never knew about the danger were are currently in, she didn’t know why Jai randomly dyed her hair or why Jafari, Devon and Al-Jamar started being around and following after Jai.

“Kahlua Velez’s family?” A Caucasian female doctor came out, holding the typical clipboard as she looked around the emergency room.

“Us!” Kahlua’s mother jumped up and soon we call followed her actions, almost all of the emergency was standing up.

“Well can I just speak to her parents?” The doctor proposed, examining the amplitude of her family and friends.

“Yeah” Her mother agreed, grabbing Ricky hands and looking back at JJ as he mumbled to himself. He hasn’t moved since we got here and I know he’s not good. This kid is probably traumatized, he shouldn’t have to go through this, nobody should.

I held Jailaina closer to my chest as I sat back down, slowly rocking her body. Her little sobs had grew silence and her breathing was sluggish so I’m assuming she fell asleep.

“YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?” Ricky’s voice could be heard from the private room he, his mother and the doctor all went in. Seconds later he stormed out of the room, red in the face and tears streaming down his face as his chest heaved. The first thing he did was punch the nearest wall, leaving a big hole before picking up one of the chairs and throwing it, walking out the room.

“What happened?”Jailaina’s soft voice rang out as she lifted her head, rubbing her eyes.

“I don’t know” I stated, truthfully. Lua’s mother and the doctor still haven’t come out the room so I don’t know what’s up.

“I’ll be back” I’m assuming one of Kahlua’s cousins spoke, getting up and walking into the room. Minutes later and he finally walked back towards us and his seat, his face cold.

“What’s up, what happened?” Jai asked, eagerly. “What happened?!” Jailaina reiterated, louder as she grew angry.

“She’s gone.” He answered, blankly, like he almost didn’t believe himself.

Chapter 22

(Jailaina)

“Babe..” I poked his shoulder and he didn’t move a muscle. “Chrisss” I sang, shaking him slightly. He rolled onto his back and covered his eyes with his arms. “Babe, you gotta wake up” I stated, softly, kissing his chin.

“We not going to school” He grumbled, moving onto his side so he was facing me.

“I can’t just skip school, Chris” I sighed and he waved me off.

“Only thing that is gonna happen is that they’ll call Jay, Jay will call you and then you will get out of any punishment or lecture he’s gonna try and give you. Now go to sleep” He mumbled, pulling me down back on the bed as I stood up.

“Fine” I surrendered, leaning into his chest and wrapping my arm around his torso as he wrapped the covers back over us.

“Jai?” He called, resting his big hand on my ass.

“Yeah?” I asked, looking up at his adorable face as he kept his eyes closed.

“I love you” He murmured, leaning down and pecking my lips. Not caring that we both haven’t brushed our teeth yet, I leaned up for more, pecking his soft lips multiple times before laying my head in the crook of his neck.

“I love you too big head” I stated and he chuckled, pulling me closer.

(Chris)

I pushed myself off my bed and squinted my eyes as I walked past my bright ass window and into the bathroom. I ignored the grumbling noise in my stomach as I brushed my teeth, washing my face before walking out my room and following the mouth-watering scent that was coming from downstairs.

I stopped at the threshold of the kitchen and watched Jailaina as she wiped down the counters, leaning up some and causing my hoodie that she was sporting to rise up, allowing me a peeking of the purple boy shorts that hugged her hips tight.

“Good morning beautiful” I mumbled in her ear, wrapping my arm around her small waist.

“Good morning baby” She turned around, her cheeks high as she smiled before leaning to meet my puckered lips. “I made breakfast and I already ate but yours is in the microwave” She instructed, pointing to the microwave before going back to cleaning the stove.

“Damn” I chuckled, smacking her ass before walking over to the microwave and retrieving my still warm plate. I sat down at the island and placed the stacked plate in front of me. It was piled with cheese eggs, sausage, bacon and those plantain things I always ask her to make.

“I made some tostones for you too so you could shut up and stop asking me” She smiled, dropping the rag on the counter and pushing herself up.

“C’mere” I grumbled and she hopped down, strutting over to my side of the island, stopping next to me. “Thank you” I leaned down to kiss her pink lips, making them a little greasy from the sausage. “You gon’ be my wife, cleaned and cooked for ya man.. you everything” I complimented, pulling her in front of me and pecking her lips again.

“Gimme” She ordered, taking the fork from my hands and stabbing at the eggs piled on my plate. She spun back around, facing me and held the fork to my mouth. I wrapped my lips around the fork before letting her slide the fork out my mouth and eating the warm eggs.

She fed me almost the whole plate before I pushed it away and picked her up, placing her on the island.

“Baby, 6 months ago, I did not think I would be with you. I actually though you were a whore” She stated, wrapping her arms around me as I stood up.

“Now you with me and its forever” I spoke truthfully, picking her up and making my way to the living room I plopped down on the couch with her in my lap before scooting down more so I was more comfortable. “Can you hand me the remote?” I asked and she turned slightly, grabbing it from the coffee table and handing it to me.

“You can’t be just leaving this around when Chase is here” She advised, holding up a small baggie.

“I know, but he ain’t here so don’t sweat” I murmured, reaching over and grabbing my jacket from the arm of the couch as I left the TV on Martin. “Hand me my notebook” I pointed to the composition notebook on the coffee table as I took the bag from her and dug through my jacket pockets for my blunt.

(Jailaina)

“I wanna try” I spoke up as he took another pull from the blunt.

“You sure?” His eyebrow raised and I nodded, reached out for it. “Hold it like this” He instructed, positioning the blunt between my thumb and pointer finger. “Let the smoke fill your mouth as you inhale and then wait like 3 to 5 seconds before exhaling” He added and I nodded, following his steps and bringing the blunt to my lips. He stared at me as I let the smoke leave my mouth, handing the blunt back.

“I like it” I smiled, as he smirked at me.

“That shit was sexy as fuck” He growled, slipping his cool hand under the hoodie I was wearing and gripping my hip tight.

We shared the blunt, passing it back and forth as I laid on his chest, watching the TV show with him.

“Babe, can you pass me that?” I asked, pointing to my vibrating phone on the other side of the couch. He leaned over and retrieved it, passing it to me.

“Fuck” I sighed when I saw it was my dad.

“Just answer it” Chris murmured, leaning his head back and blowing the smoke into the air.

“Hello” I spoke into the phone.

“Mija, la escuela llamó y me dijo que no estabas allí. No sé lo que hiciste todo el día o por qué no ha ido, pero simplemente no hacer esta mierda día o voy a tener que castigarte” His deep voice spoke through the speaker and I sighed in relief.

“Okay Pa” I agreed.

“Alright, I love you and be safe, bye” He ended the call in a rush and I tossed it back on the couch, laying my head back on Chris’ chest.

“What he say?” Chris asked, making his chest vibrate against my head.

“He said don’t make it a daily thing” I answered, quietly as his hand rested on my ass.

“Told you” He smacked my ass hard, letting out a ugly ass cackle when I jumped up.

(4 days later)

“Don’t be cheating” I pushed Ricky as he tried to distract me. We all came out to bowl and hang out with each other, except for Los. His absence was cool though cause it made both teams equal.

5 girls and 5 guys.

“Alright, alright, go” He seized his laughter, watching me intently as I prepared to toss the ball down the alley. I brought my hand back and started to bring it up, letting it release from my fingers when he screamed at me. “BOO!” He scared me and I dropped the ball sideways, making it roll right into the gutter.

“I hate you” I whined, pushing him as he laughed loud along with the rest of the guys.

“JJ your turn” Lua called out, grabbing a ball so she could go up. He watched from the other lane as she threw the ball perfectly, scoring a strike.

“Thats my baby” Bry’s loud ass yelled as she ran up to Lua, chest bumping her.

“Shut up wit’cho ratchet ass, embarrassing me in public and shit” I playfully scowled her and she laughed, wrapping her arm around my shoulder.

“Yo bruh, you ‘bout to get cut from the team” Chris shouted at JJ as his ball rolled right back past all the pins.

“Yo, it was just the wind! It affected my throw a little bit” He tried to explained and I busted out laughing, leaning on Bry as she chuckled along.

“Shut up man, it’s my turn” Chris grumbled, pushing past him and grabbing a ball.

“Lets go baby!” I cheered and the girls glared at me as he looked back and smiled before getting in the zone.

“Bitch you on our team, we don’t have time for ya’ll to be all cute” Jelani spat and I rolled my eyes, waving her off.

“Shut yo mean ass up” I retorted and she flipped me off.

“Yo Bry! Do ya thang baby” Lani cheered Bryanna, playfully sending her a wink.

“YES!” She jumped up when her ball knocked down all the pins but 2 right next to each other.

“Jai wanna go get some nachos with me?” Lua asked me and I nodded, stuffing my phone in my pocket and following her.

“Yo, we are about to beat them” I chatted, leaning my elbows on the counter top as we waited for one of the workers t come over to us.

“I know, this was a good ass idea” She sent me a pretty smile as I wrapped my short arm around her shoulders.

“This reminds me of all the times we use to go out and bowl or run through the mall, have shopping cart races through the aisles of Walmart” She reminiscent and I laughed, looking back at the times. We were some clowns. “Now everything don’ changed, my beautiful ass niece was brought into the world, I got Aaron and we’re getting closer. I mean I miss things but alot of goods things have happened and I wouldn’t change it” She explained and I nodded the whole time, agreeing.

“Tomorrow we should just have a girls day, me, you, Bry, Lani and Kendalyn” We giggled together after I said Kendalyn’s name. “Go get our hair and nails done, go to your house and have a sleepover with a whole bunch of fat and unhealthy things and talk about everything” I proposed as she smiled widely.

“Sounds like a good ass idea” She agreed, waving a chef done.

“How may I help you pretty ladies?” He flirted and I chuckled, letting Kahlua order her food.

“TWIN!” JJ ran up to us and stood between us, wrapping his arms around our shoulders. “Make that 2 nachos and a cherry slushie” He added to Lua’s order and the guy nodded before walking away and going to make the food.

“What you want, Jose?” I asked and he furrowed his eyebrows.

“I was just coming to see my twin and yo ol’ spoiled, mean ass” He grumbled, moving to the other side of Lua as I laughed.

“Stop being so damn sensitive simp ass nigga, I was playing” I retorted and he flipped me off as I continued to laugh.

“Here you go” The waiter boy from their food and JJ paid before we walked back to the crew.

“Yo, Jai you the last one to play. If you get more than 5 points then we win” Lani explained and I nodded before walking to the lane and grabbing a ball. I tried to block the guys out as they made comments trying to distract me as I brought my arm back before letting the ball go down the lane.

“YES!” I heard all the girls yell in unison as the ball his every pin, knocking them all down.

“Strike bitches” I yelled in the boys’ faces as they all sat in silence.

“Yeah, now they all on hush mode. What happen to all that shit you was talking in the car Mijo?” Bryanna asked, getting all in his face.

“Man, whatever lets go” Chris grumbled, getting up as the guys got up along with him. We all walked up to the front counter and exchanged back our shoes, putting on our regular shoes before walking out.

“So the plan for tomorrow?” I asked Lua and she nodded, smiling.

“I’ll tell Bry before her Mijo leave” She stated and I nodded, hugging her and kissing her cheek.

“Love you” I told her.

“Love you too Nieva” She kissed my cheek and I waved to Mijo and Bry as they sat in the car.

“Bye guys” I called out to them before following Chris to the car. Lani slid into the backseat as I took my seat in the passenger, looking over at Chris’ sour face. “Bae, you know it was just a game right?” I fought the smile that was trying to make its way on my face.

“I’on care, I don’t like losing” He muttered, whipping out to the parking spot fast and zooming out the parking lot as I laughed silently at his satlyness.

Ok so I'm a new reader sorry for being a quite reader but I really love this story I just found it an I didn't even know you stopped but I love it so much I hope midnight bowling will be good with no work

I woke up and looked around to see I was alone in bed. I frowned before sliding out the bed and falling on my ass before I would actually get both feet on the ground. My frown grew as I stretched my legs out on the floor and got up, I yawned and stretched, feeling my body relax. I limped over to my bag and grabbed my towel and some underwear before shuffling to the bathroom.

I turned the water up high as I placed my stuff on the counter, grabbing my toothbrush and proceeding to brush my teeth. I stripped and got in the shower, turning my back to the water and washed my once straight hair.

I got out the shower once the water started to turn temperatures, wrapping my towel around myself. I quickly threw my bra and panties on before throwing my towel in his hamper and walking out the bathroom.

Still empty.

“Where is he?” I asked out loud. I walked over to my bag and dug through it, grabbing a pair of old cheer shorts and a white tank. I grabbed my brush and my phone and made my way downstairs.

“Chriiiissss” I called out, brushing my hair as I walked into the kitchen.

Empty.

I sent him a quick text asking where he was before making myself a bowl of cereal and plopping down on the couch and turning the TV on.

All alone.

(Chris)

I flicked the roach of the blunt on the cement before jogging up the steps and shoving my key in the lock. I unlocked the door and slammed it behind me before walking down the hallway to the living room.

“Yeah, he just walked in though so never mind” Jailaina muttered in the phone before saying goodbye and dropping her phone on the couch. I walked over to the other side of the couch and plopped down, sinking in as I pulled out my phone.

“Hi?” She greeted me and I nodded at her.

“Sup” I murmured.

“Okay, well can you take me home?” He asked, attitude dripping from her voice as she focused on her phone again.

“Why?” I grumbled, glancing over at her.

“Cause I’ve been up since 9 waiting for you and its going on 3:30 and you stroll in here with an attitude so I want to go home” She ranted and I sucked my teeth.

“I don’t have an attitude and I had shit to do, I’m here now though right?” I asked and she rolled her eyes. To be honest, I do kind of have an attitude but its only cause I didn’t get to finish yesterday. A nigga was pissed.

“Whatever, come here” She ordered and I looked over at her again, shaking my head.

“Nah”

“Come herrreee” She whined, motioning with her finger. I sucked my teeth before pushing my self off the couch and walking over to her.

“What?” I asked as she looked up at me with a pout.

“Why are you acting like such an ass! Come sit with me” She whined some more.

“You being extra whiny today” I murmured and plopped down next to her. She wrapped her arms around my torso and I wrapped my arm around her little body.

“Are you gonna tell me why you are being so mean to me?” She asked and I shook my head as I flicked threw channels. “What did I do?” She asked again and I shook my head once more.

“Nothing, leave it alone” I insisted.

“Merp” She chirped as I leaned more into her and sunk into the couch more. “Baaabbeee” She dragged out as she moved from under my arm and onto my lap, blocking my view of the tv.

“I can’t see” I muttered.

“So what, Bry wants us to come over and chill today” She spoke and I nodded. I played with the hem of her shirt and she followed my fingers.

“Take it off” I ordered and she smirked.

“We can’t do anything, I told Bry we were going” She giggled as I pulled on her shirt.

“Just suck me off then” I requested.

(Jailaina)

“Lemme see!” Lua perked up as I rose my head out the sink.

“Baby girl, it looks good” Bryana complimented as I flipped my hair back and looked at myself in the mirror. I looked different, to be honest. I’ve never had my hair this dark before so to go from natural light brown/blondish to jet black is different.

“Put the towel back on, its still dripping” Lua instructed and I flipped my hair back over, taking the towel form her and wrapping my hair in it.

“Lets go see what the boys are doing cause it’s hella quiet” I proposed, bring my head back up and tucking the end of the towel in before walking out the bathroom behind them.

“MIJO!” Bryanna yelled as we walked down the hallway.

“What!?” He yelled back as we approached them in the living room. Bryanna’s parents went to Mexico; on vacation and her siblings are both in college. So she got the free.

“I was just making sure you guys wasn’t doing something you wasn’t suppose to do” She smirked, plopping down on the couch next to him. I sat down next to Chris and he wrapped his arm around my shoulder. His attitude changed quickly after the little gift I gave him, I didn’t really enjoy it though. Makes me feel dirty.

“Lemme see your hair” He proposed and I pulled the towel off my newly dyed hair. I ran my fingers through my now black hair. “Damn babe it looks good” He complimented, combing his fingers in my hair.

“Really?” I asked and he chuckled, nodding.

“Yeah, I like this dark color” He added, wrapping his arm around me tighter. He kissed my temple as I giggled, covering my face when I saw the cheeky grin Lua was sending me.

“Look, on friday we should go midnight bowling at the Playdium; all of us. Lua’s brothers and Lani too, just like old times” Bryanna proposed as I pushed Chris’ big head away.

“Thats cool, I don’t have any plans and I think Lani can get her mom to watch Kendalyn” I answered, playfully elbowing Chris in the stomach as he bit my shoulder.

“Alright so it’s set” Bryanna chirped, clasping her hands together. “And no work” She warned Mijo.

“Alright, I’ll see what we can do” He answered, looking up at Aaron then at Chris.

“I’m serious, no leaving early, no calls, no meeting up with people. I want it to be distraction free; just a chill night” She pointed her finger in his face and he raised his hands, surrendering, as he nodded.

“Baby, wait right here because I think he left for another trip again” I told Chris, kissing his cheek and he nodded.

“Alright, hurry up” He yawned as I got out the car and sped walk up the driveway. Instead of having to go up the stairs to the front door I went through the side door on the garage, going through the garage door and into the living room.

“Hey, stranger” Nina greeted me from her comfortable position on the couch, beside her boyfriend; Max.

“Hey cousin” I leaned over the couch, kissing her cheek before kissing Max’s.

“You leaving again?” She asked as I walked up the 3 steps into the kitchen, grabbing a water bottle from the fridge.

“Is your dad here?” I asked.

“No” She answered.

“Yeah, I’ll be back after school tomorrow” I called out to her as I walked down the hall and into my room. I packed a light bag and shut my lights off before closing my door and walking down the hall again.

“See you later babes, be safe” Nina ordered as I waved to her and Max, walking out the same door I came through. I quickly walked down the driveway after making sure the side garage door was locked, hopping in the car.

“You coming?” Chris asked, groggily and I nodded, buckling up.
